Bread & Butter Wild Thang & Psycho Review – Their Best Paddles Yet?
If you’ve been following the pickleball paddle scene, you already know Bread & Butter isn’t afraid to push boundaries. But with the Wild Thang and the Psycho, they’ve taken a major leap forward — and in my opinion, these might be the best paddles Bread & Butter has ever made.
In this post, I break down both paddles, what makes them different, and who they’re best for — based on my real-world testing after getting early access at the Bread & Butter Nerdy Tourney.
📦 First Impressions: Wild Thang vs Psycho
Both paddles feel like evolutions of past Bread & Butter designs. Familiar, but smarter. Faster. And more dialed in.
The Psycho introduces their first 14mm core.
The Wild Thang builds on the DNA of the beloved Shogun with more pop and agility.
Neither is released yet, but both are expected soon. You can use code PICKLEBALLBLAST for 10% off when they launch.
🔥 Bread & Butter Psycho Review
Key Specs:
Shape: Standard
Core: 14mm with 10mm black polypropylene cells
Weight: 7.92 oz
Swing Weight: 103
Twist Weight: 6.8
Surface: CFC Layup with a fiberglass layer
🧠 What It Feels Like to Play
The Psycho is fast, stable, and snappy. It’s the kind of paddle you’ll love in hands battles thanks to its low swing weight and high twist weight.
Pop: Poppy but not wild — there’s just enough spring to keep things aggressive without sacrificing control.
Feel: Slightly stiff with solid feedback. You feel connected on contact.
Customizable: Great stock, but really shines with a bit of added weight. The sweet spot and plow-through are the key targets to improve on with that weight, but with such a low swing weight to begin with you’ll still be quick at the net.
🎯 Who Is It For?
If you love fast-hand battles, want a crisp standard-shape paddle, and don’t mind tuning your setup with some weight, the Psycho is right in your lane. It’s poppy, responsive, and shockingly stable for how light it is.
🐆 Bread & Butter Wild Thang Review
Key Specs:
Shape: Elongated
Core: 16mm
Surface: 3K carbon fiber + fiberglass layer
Weight: 7.77 oz
Swing Weight: 114.7
Twist Weight: 5.9
⚡ What It Feels Like to Play
The Wild Thang feels like a Shogun Plus — keeping everything players loved, but improving speed and pop with a fiberglass layer.
More Pop: Not a power paddle, but has more bite than the Shogun.
More Speed: Lower swing weight makes it faster in hand than the original.
Customizable: Definitely has room to add weight and still stay agile.
Some players have asked about the smooth logo section affecting spin — I didn’t notice any issues during gameplay. Spin still felt solid and consistent.
🎯 Who Is It For?
Fans of the Shogun will feel right at home, and even players new to BNB paddles will love the balance of feel, forgiveness, and pop. Whether you want to leave it stock for quick hands or build it up for more power or stability — it adapts easily.
🏁 Final Thoughts
The Psycho and Wild Thang are proof that Bread & Butter is evolving — fast. These are their most refined, well-balanced, and exciting paddles yet.
The Psycho is all about speed, pop, and quick reflexes in a standard shape.
The Wild Thang is a nimble upgrade to the Shogun, giving players pop without compromising feel.
Neither paddle is out yet — but the Wild Thang will drop first, followed by the Psycho in August. I’ll be covering more when they go live, but for now…
