Neonic Flow Prime X vs Flare Prime X: Which Paddle Should You Choose?

If you’re hunting for a new pickleball paddle, Neonic just made your decision even harder—in the best way possible. They’ve dropped not one, but two fantastic paddles in the last few weeks: the Flare Prime X and the brand-new Flow Prime X. Today, we’re diving into how they stack up against each other and which one might be the better fit for your game.

(Quick heads-up: Neonic did send me these paddles to review, but they didn’t pay me for this post and don’t get to see it before it goes live. Also, if you decide to grab one, you can use code PICKLEBALLBLAST to save 10%.)

Meet the Flow Prime X

The Flow Prime X is a 16mm, hybrid-shaped paddle built for all-court performance, leaning slightly toward offense. It features a slightly longer handle—great if that’s something you look for—and delivers a solid amount of power without sacrificing touch. It's quick in the hands and feels plush compared to many power paddles.

Even better? Its MSRP is $140, but right now it’s on Black Friday sale for $112. Stack the PICKLEBALLBLAST code, and you can get it for around $100—a steal.

Quick Stats: Flow Prime X vs Flare Prime X

  • Shape: Flow (Hybrid) | Flare (Standard)

  • Core Thickness: Flow (16mm) | Flare (14mm)

  • Play Style: Flow (balanced, control-oriented) | Flare (offensive, poppy)

While the construction is similar between the two, the shape and core thickness make a noticeable difference in play style.

Breaking Down the Flow Prime X

Power:
The Flow brings controllable, above-average power. Drives and putaways feel strong, though slightly softer compared to the Flare Prime X. While I didn’t radar test it, my on-court experience suggested a touch less raw power—but in a good way for players who value control.

Control:
Thanks to its plush feel, the Flow Prime X shines in the soft game. Dinks, resets, and touch shots come more naturally than they do with the Flare. If control is a priority, the Flow edges out its sibling.

Pop:
Here’s where the biggest difference lies. The Flare Prime X is packed with pop, while the Flow dials it back noticeably. I often describe the Flow as “the Flare Prime X if you’re worried about the pop getting you into trouble”—and that description still holds up after plenty of court time.

Spin:
Both paddles offer impressive spin potential. Though I didn't record RPMs myself, my friend Matt from Matt’s Pickleball found both paddles comfortably over 2200 RPM, with the Flare slightly edging out the Flow.

Hand Speed:
The Flow felt just a hair slower than the Flare, but that’s because the Flare is one of the fastest paddles I’ve used. The Flow still earns a solid "fast" rating and holds up well in quick hands battles at the net.

Aesthetics:
On looks alone, I give the nod to the Flow. While the Flare already looks great, the Flow’s added color and slick gradient edge guard make it a real standout.

Which One Should You Get?

Choosing between the Flare Prime X and Flow Prime X really comes down to your playing style:

  • Choose the Flare Prime X if you want maximum pop and power, love aggressive play, or need help generating power on your own.

  • Choose the Flow Prime X if you prefer a more balanced game, like a softer touch, or favor hybrid-shaped paddles.

Both paddles are lightweight, which makes them excellent choices if you’re sensitive to paddle weight or arm fatigue.

The Value Play

Beyond their performance, what really stands out is the value. Neonic is offering high-quality paddles at prices well below the big-name brands, making these a great choice whether you’re upgrading your setup or buying your first serious paddle.

At around $100 with the current sale and code, it’s hard to find better value for the performance you're getting.

Final Thoughts

Both the Flow Prime X and Flare Prime X are exciting additions to Neonic’s lineup. They’re pushing the sport forward with thoughtful designs at great prices, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
