Honolulu J6CR Pickleball Paddle Review – A New Standard In Pickleball
Preorders are officially live for the Honolulu J6CR (Core Reactor), and after 15–20 hours of play, this is easily one of the best paddles on the market right now. I haven’t been able to put it down, and that’s saying something considering how many paddles I rotate through.
If you liked paddles like the J6NF or FC+, think of the CR line as the upgraded evolution. More power, more pop, improved feel, but still with the sweet spot, forgiveness, and predictability Honolulu has become known for.
Let’s break down what makes this paddle special and who it’s best for.

The New Core: Where the Magic Happens
Honolulu continues to separate themselves as leaders in foam core innovation, and the J6CR introduces one of the most interesting constructions we’ve seen yet.
This isn’t just an EPP foam block with an EVA perimeter. Instead:
There’s EPP foam in the center
An EVA foam ring with interlocking notched edges
And the EVA structure actually cuts through sections of the EPP foam toward the lower portion of the paddle
It’s a layered, puzzle like structure and it clearly impacts how the paddle plays.
This design helps deliver a high end feel, impressive stability potential, and some standout performance numbers. The biggest surprise of the Honolulu J6CR though is how fast it is and how low the swing weight is.
Customization Potential Is Elite
A 112 swing weight for an elongated power paddle is very good. That low starting point gives you tons of room to add weight without turning the paddle into something unplayable.
I added:
8 grams total (4g per side along the lower edges)
That brought my paddle to:
Twist Weight: 7.0 (very high stability)
Swing Weight: 114.7 (still way below many stock elongated paddles)
That balance of maneuverability + mod potential is a huge advantage and outperforms the J6NF and FC+ in this area.
Power: The “Sweet Spot” of Power
The J6CR sits at the top of Honolulu’s power lineup, above both the NF and FC+.
In the broader market, it’s firmly in the power paddle category, but not at the extreme, uncontrollable end. I’d place it just under something like the Bread & Butter Loco in raw output. This level of power means you can hit hard, but it’s still predictable.
You’re getting:
Strong putaway ability
Solid depth on drives
Pop for counters and speed-ups
But without constantly worrying about balls sailing long. For most players, this is actually the ideal balance.
Pop, Feel & Responsiveness
Compared to the NF and FC+:
More pop than the NF and FC+
Noticeably more lively than the FC+
Slightly more hollow and crisp off the face
More Power than both
What really stood out to me was the feel upgrade. I preferred the FC+ feel over the NF, even though it had a bit less power. The CR feels like it takes that better feel from the FC+ and combines it with NF-level (or better) power.
You get:
Good dwell time
Solid pocketing
Excellent responsiveness
Strong ball shaping ability
This is another area where the CR really shines.
The Paddle I Keep Going Back To
I test a lot of paddles. Most modern paddles are objectively good, but not all of them feel right for me.
The J6CR has become the paddle I reach for when I want to reset and play my best. That says a lot about the balance, predictability, and feel.
Who Is the J6CR Best For?
This paddle is a great fit for players who:
✔ Want a power paddle that doesn’t feel wild
✔ Value predictability and control with their power
✔ Like a fast paddle and are open to adding weight
✔ Enjoy a crisp, responsive feel without being overly harsh
✔ Previously liked the NF or FC+ and want an upgrade
Final Thoughts
The Honolulu J6CR is an iterative upgrade from the NF and FC+. More power, more pop, great feel, and excellent customization potential all at a competitive price.
It’s rare to see a paddle move the needle in an already strong lineup, but Honolulu pulled it off again.
If you’re in the market for a high level power paddle that still gives you control and confidence, the J6CR absolutely deserves a spot on your shortlist.
